JordBur and the Savior

_ by JORDBUR (Just ORDinary BURmese)

Before the New Year turns, Jordbur, the skeptic meets the savior.

His saviour is not a gorgeous goddess, beautiful angel nor a white bearded old saint performing magic but a Hollywood film made by Oliver Stone.

It is about an American intelligent officer (Dennis Quale filled this role) whose wife and only son were killed in a bomb made by terrorists during his overseas posting, who later retaliated by shooting terrorists refuging in a nearby mosque. He signed up with France's foreign legion, a facility for transforming outcasts into killing machines, become a French  man with a France passport after the end of 5 years legionnaire contract.

He cannot become a perfume wearing, croissant eating, easy going Parisian but being restless and still trying hard to forget his past, he went another war, this time on the side of Orthodox Christian Serbians in their trio conflict among Orthodox Serbians, Bosian Muslim Mujahideens and Catholics Croats. There gradually, he becomes another child killer, woman beater in the name of God. To protect a new born infant of mixed Serb and Bosian he had to hand out civilian killers fast track tickets to heaven from the barrel of his automatic rifle which Jorbur loves to have one to scare crows in the golden paddy fields of Burma.

Then as usual, Jordbur cannot stop drifting into thoughts ....Never been a pious man in his life even when he is sober but Jordbur the great is a self styled secularist liberal who disagrees and despises religious lunatics.

He thinks secularism is cool and futuristic although Samuel Huntington's The Clash of Civilizations thesis made him rethinks universal appeal of secularism.

Jordbur thinks and treats secularism as a natural bed mate for the liberal democracy. A visit to the fridge and with malt whisky in his hand, Jordbur fell into deep thoughts and questions blossom in his mind. Why people of different faith cannot peacefully co-exists on same earth? Why some people are pre-occupied with converting faith of other folks? Why people spent their lives on missionaries in remote area of earth, which is acceptable if one promotes education and health of local folks. But why some young men and old grannies went too far blowing up themselves and others who they don’t know? Why don’t they use that balls of energies in their bodies to convert all nations to liberal democratic secularist societies with competent men risen due to meritocracy (a practice use to promote based on ability and qualifications only without influence of relationships, connections, bribes, etc..) running state institutions such as armed forces, diplomatic forces, central bank, ministry of finance, regulation and control authorities, universities, schools, courts, hospitals, etc..? Officials diligently working with elected politicians on top.

Why people cannot accept that cool governance system in which the rule of a government elected by majority by voting, with constitutional rights and protections for minority, less intrusion and control of government over a life of citizen, respecting an individual choices and liberty. Also where institutional independent watch dogs and free press sniffing and scrutinizing politicians and officials, business community for possible corrupt practices, abuses and malpractices and penalize them by independent judges and laws passed by elected representative of people in the parliament or the congress.

Why are human rights and religious rights foreign for some folks? Are not they humans?

Jordbur thinks human right is as simple as treating others as he wants to be treated.

He thinks if you want to be treated as an equal to any other man, not to be discriminated then why should he treat other human beings differently. Is it hard to understand for some breed of men? Is that rocket science? Who breed those people?

Are ruling generals in his homeland Burma dislike or disapprove liberal democracy?

Why do some people want to stick and protect systems, traditions and norms which are vulnerable (easy to be infected with) to nepotism (staffing and promoting friends and families though they may lack qualifications and abilities), cronyism (handing out profitable business to companies those give bribes or kickbacks) and a lot of social illnesses.

Jordbur thinks he opened the can of worms. So he decided to follow one of famous tyrants Chairman Mao's infamous advice "Don’t read too much as it will make you more stupid, don’t think too much as it will make you confuse" and he went to cozy bed.
