Democracy Campaign Burma Digest
|
. This week we heard some sincere brave words again. Federation of Trade Unions Burma (FTUB) and Burma Campaign UK (BCUK) together presented a show along with the Trade Unions' Conference in UK. There they said SPDC spent very disproportionately large amount of money to buy military equipments while giving too little budget to health and education sector. Now SPDC is crying that sanctions hurt. But what happened to millions upon millions, or billions, of dollars SPDC generals made from selling natural gas from off-shore gas fields? And what about money from loggings, gems mining, etc. And if the people's health and education conditions are too poor, why SPDC is investing hugely in nuclear research? Why are they building a nuclear reactor? And why are they building a very expensive new capital and military command head quarters in Pyinmanar? Why, why, why? And concerning sanctions, we should not forget that in early 1990s, there were no sanctions and multi-million dollar foreign invstments were flowing into burma. But where all those investment money ended up? In the big pockets of SPDC generals and there cronies. And Senior General Than Shwe's illegitimate son-in-law monopolizes all sorts of businesses in Burma, construction, tourism,...you name it! He owns everything! And he is also the sole agent for SPDC to buy arms and nuclear technology from Russia. And we cannot forget that former dictator General Ne Win, former boss of current Senior Gen. Than Shwe, turned Burma into a least developed poorest country in the world by ruling with inefficiency and corruptness. And then he cried for help like a begger. And when donor country gave aid, he used that aid money to buy houses in Switzerland and to get secret bank accounts in Swiss Banks. So, as long as there is no democracy in Burma, all international humanitarian aid money will end up in Generals' secret bank accounts.
