In 8 days
time our democractic struggle will be 17 years old.
What have we achieved so far, and where are we now? [ Most probably,
stuck at no where.]
Even for a boy, 17 year is ripe enough age to start wondering about the
future. So what shall we do now???
Whether we like it or not, we need a regime change, probably as they did
in Afganistan.
These days, situations in Burma under SPDC military regime has too many
similarities to that of Afganistan under Taliban regime. Similarities
include_
_ production of huge amounts of opium and other narcotic drugs
_ a total lack of human rights and labour rights
_ rule by unelected notorious military regimes
_ corruption at all levels of governments
_ the regimes' enimorsity towards democratic powers like US, UK, etc
_ the regimes' friendliness with other dictatorships like communist
China, Pakistan, etc
_ utter deterioration or disintegration of economy inside the country
_ large numbers of externally and internally displaced people and
refugees
_ people living under fear inside the country
_ people's feelings of bitter disappointment and despair, and sense of
loss of hope
_ people's oppressed angers against the ruthlessly oppressive regime
_ on-going sanctions by democratic powers on the regime
_ presence of a large number of disunited armed groups fighting against
the regime
_ presence of exiled disunited opposition political groups
What they did in Afganistan was that the once
disunited armed groups and political groups agreed to unite, regardless
of their political and ethnic differences, to fight against the common
enemy "the regime"; and they also joined hands with democratic forces,
mainly of US. And what they achieved? They got their most hated Taliban
regime removed and got democracy restored in their country. Moreover,
they have now got a lot of progresses in rebuilding their country, again
mainly with US's help.
So why not we do the same?
Here, we have well-experienced and well-armed ethnic groups fighting
against SPDC regime. We have internationally recognised exiled political
groups like NCGUB. We have already got the regime under sanctions thanks
to US, UK etc.
If all our political and ethnic groups can unite.....if somehow
Americans agree to flex their muscles to help us ..... we will
definitely be able to restore democracy in our country and then start
rebuilding process.
Of course, I know some people will call me "a western stooge" for saying
like this. But, don't forget that even our worshipped national hero
Bogyoke Aung San had to take Japanese Imperial Army's help, and Burmese
people had to suffer to some extent under Japanese Imperial Army at that
time; but we got our most wanted Independence after some sacrifices,
didn'e we? Bogyoke Aung San united all Burmese political and armed
groups, and got some help from foreign powers to make us strong enough
so that we could secure Independence for our country eventually. So why
shouldn't we follow his example to achieve democracy in our country very
soon? |
