Democracy Campaign Burma Digest
|
Editorial: So Far Burma Digest human-rights campaign journal was first started as a news (Burma-related, especially politically related news) digest. But later on it evolved as an article-based campaign journal purely dedicating on campaigning for democracy and human-rights in Burma. Now, we receive altogether more than ten thousand readers per month on our website and weblog_ we also send out a pdf booklet to Burma-related and human-rights-related forums every week, for those readers who do not want to visit websites. We can just guess the combined total number of web-readers and pdf-readers. On the contributors side, we get contributions of articles, opinion pieces, commentaries, poems, humours, etc in both English and Burmese languages. We have to regard our Burmese language section as a success. When we first started we did not even have a separate Burmese section; we just put a few Burmese articles among the majority English ones. Although English articles are important to promote awareness among our international friends about human-rights abuses by the military regime in Burma, Burmese articles are also very essential as we are campaigning for Human-rights advancement in Burma which will only be achieved by the efforts of Burmese people_ we cannot lose touch with grass-root Burmese people. Now we have our Burmese section well established with regular stream of article contributions from Burmese friends. And we also enjoy moral support, advice and other necessary help provided by very well-known and greatly respected academics and activists like Prof. Win, Ko Htun Aung Gyaw,........etc. We also have great friendship and understanding with ethnic leaders from Shan groups, Rakhine groups, Chin groups, Rohinger groups, etc. We also cooperate with international friends from US, Canada, Romania, France, Indonesia, Malaysia,..... etc_ and of course, UK, as Burma Digest is based in UK. Moreover, among our long list of plans for the future, the immediate and imminent one is to publish books of collected articles by our regular contributors. Coming soon! On the other hand, as a reward for our achievements and efforts we_ the website and the two editors, Tayza in UK & Zay Ya in Japan_ are getting virus attacks everyday from mysterious thugs. So, dear friends, so far, so good!
